Premier Marketing Concepts Inc (San Francisco, CA)

Beware of attractive, but possibly deceptive job ads which offer entry-level training in management, marketing, and sales especially if the ads state no experience required. If you decide to interview with such a company, ask many questions before accepting employment. Will you be paid minimum wage or commission? Are there company benefits?

Beware of invitations for an all-day second "interview". If you decide to go to the second "interview", wear comfortable shoes as you will be doing lots of walking trying to sell door-to-door.

  1. Interesting.. My second "interview" is also today and I thought something seemed a bit off when their website advertises training more than their actual services. During the first interview, the guy mentioned AT&T as one of their clients.

I guess I'll skip on the interview and keep looking around. What a bummer.

  2. I am a former employee of PMC and without reservation absolutely endorse thier sales and leadership training. The 8 months I spent working and learning taught me more about personal interaction than my 4 year communications degree and without a doubt was integral in landing my dream job with a major bank. Because of my experience selling door to door and training others I was able to breeze through the interview process and demonstrated that I would be a valuable asset to any company.
This company is completely transparent in thier sales practices from Day 1 and I highly reccomend this company to new college grads looking to gain some real world experience.
If you want an easy job go work at McDonalds, if you can be succesfull here you can do anything.

  3. Today I had an interview scheduled for 10:30am - I was called by Sophie who found my resume on www.careerbuilder.com we spent quite a bit of time discussing the position on the phone she said she was very happy with my sales experience and my administrative background that it would come in handy for the customer service/sales/marketing position they had available. I thought it sounded great, I have been looking to get back into sales and the way she made it sound it was going to be a call center/office environment.

So back to this morning, I get there at 10:15am after driving to the office from San Mateo in the storm. I had been in the car for over an hour and still came with a smile on my face. I met with the receptionist who complained about Sophie not answering her phone that morning so she didn’t want to come in because she was ill. I understood her frustration and still appreciated her effort to make it into work anyway.

So around 10:35am the "sales manager" showed up - the receptionist brought my "application" and resume to the back and Terry then came out - no greeting no handshake no how was your day - I got a "come back"

I gather my things, and head toward the hall - he is all the way at the end of the hallway stepping into his office. I catch up to him and take a seat. He briefly goes over my resume and "application" - the first thing out of his mouth is I have no sales experience... I told him I have had over 7 years of direct sales experience it was just quite a bit ago and at the bottom of my resume.

He goes over the position, and then very aggressively asked me if I knew what AT&T Uverse was and what it did. I told him what I knew it was some new fiber optic phone tv & internet. He said yes. He then proceeded to tell me that the position was door to door I listened to him and then he blurts out "you don’t look like the door to door type" Now, me pretty quick with it - I asked what door to door looks like? He didn't have an answer, and I politely explained the fact that he needs to please educate his recruiter on the position in detail and to share with careerbuilder.com what they are using their service for, and that it is a door to door sales position because had I known that I wouldn’t have wasted either of our time. Terry, being stuck on stupid didn't know what to say, so I grabbed my things and left. But of course not before mentioning to the receptionist that I would be yelping & making a note on glassdoor.com that I did not appreciate the time wasted or the comments he made.

Now, here is the thing - I need a job but I am not desperate enough to work for a company that I am now finding out is a complete fraud. Oh and to the guy above me, is your name Terry????
