East Coast Marketing Innovations, Inc/ECMI (Baltimore, MD)

East Coast Marketing Innovations Inc (Baltimore suburb) is an independently owned Cydcor licensee. Beware of attractive, but possibly deceptive job ads which offer entry-level training in management, marketing, and sales especially if the ads state "face to face" and "no experience required". If you decide to interview with such a company, ask many questions before accepting employment. Will you be paid minimum wage or commission? Are there company benefits? Beware of invitations for an all-day second "interview".

  1. Have you been able to find out more about this company? I applied for a job with ECMI, before I found this valuable website. They contacted me requesting a half an hour interview. They mentioned that if hired I would be paid between $30-$40k, but said nothing about commission. She said nothing about what the company does, or what I would be doing if hired. I was just wondering what type of scam this actually was?

  4. So I work for the company and it really is not that bad. At the most you will be in the field for 8-12 months. If you don't get to a management position by then it's on you. This is a performance based job. You determine how much you get paid each week. So what you put in you get out. Everyone is not capable and can't handle this job. So if your cut out for it then give it a try.

  5. They are 212 group solutions now located in Timonium. Do not join, if you are in it you can still quit.

  6. This job is 100% a ponzi scheme. East Coast Marketing Innovations, 212 solutions, WIT concepts, and 20 others that I've seen come and go in the past five years are ALL THE SAME COMPANY; a well-known scam group called the Smart Circle.

These ads pop up daily on every job posting site known to man. They all advertise "no experience necessary! Paid management training! Unlimited earning potential! Fast Promotion!", etc.

They are all fully commission based jobs that are all ultimately glorified door to door sales positions. If you're an excellent salesperson, and manage to "generate leads" (aka sign people up for useless services or subpar products) in a sufficient number, you will be quickly promoted to a "management training program" which will teach you how to trick, hire and train other idiots as a "junior manager" or "AGM" When you're finally promoted to "manager" you then open your own office under the guise of a different company and give it your own name.

The "fortune 500 client" who hires the scam company pays out a flat fee per lead generated. This saves them a fortune in labor costs, and exumes them of all liability from the 3rd part marketing agent's tactics.
For example, the Home Depot uses these scams for their design department. Every person who signs up for an in-home consultation with a kitchen designer gives the scam company $100 from Home Depot. Every "marketing associate" is required to generate 2+ leads per day. The "managers" take a 20-30% cut of that from each of their 12-20 employees.

So, you do make the $35,000- $40,000 they promise, but only if you sell. And meanwhile, the managers make double and triple that just by convincing you to go out and sell for them. If you're great at sales, and have zero morals, you can make a lot of money very quickly in this scheme. But I would advice you to stay away.

  7. I worked for this company. I was so excited about this job since I was promised $500 a week and would lead to a career and my own business in a year! Hindsight is 20/20 because it seemed too good to be true, and it was. The initial interview went well and I was more concerned with selling myself than really paying attention and asking the right questions. I walked away from that interview not knowing what I would be doing at all other than "something in marketing that is exciting and fast-paced". The next day I went to "train" and was told lunch would be paid for. I worked for 10 hours that day UNPAID, and as you can imagine no lunch was provided. I decided to join the team anyway because these people are AMAZING at telling you just enough to keep you hooked. Noone in their right mind would do this job if they knew exactly what they were doing. The person that trains you is part of the 5-10% of dummys that end up staying, and they want to sell the job to you because if you stay, you are part of their "team" and they make a good cut of each sale you make/each contract you get signed. IF you dare choose to make the $200/week plus commission your screwed. If you dont make atleast enough for them to make a healthy profit they will light the fire under your you know what. They strongly advise you against this option anyway and basically force you to do straight commission. With the $200 plus commission option, you do not get any bonus' (the one they do every couple of months to raise sales), and make practically nothing in commission. To break it down a little, each "contract" you get signed, which is a miracle in itself since everyone basically tells you to f*** off, you get about 35% of what the company gets for it. For example, Direct energy pays $70 per contract signed, you get $25. So basically, you are out in God knows where (usually some hood since they have the most businesses), using your OWN gas, walking around in the elements for 8 hours a day, selling your soul for less than nothing to people who pretty much hate you and wonder why you don't get a real job, to make dog poop. Mind you, the people making the other 65% of YOUR hard earned money, are sitting pretty in the office on facebook, going out to lunch, or even going home for a nap (Yes, I am DEAD serious). Oh, and COMPLETELY forget about health insurance, or any type of benefits. Also, you will never get fired or laid off unless you really mess up, so forget about unemployment. After a little while of working there, and finding out some information you are so eager to quit anyway. However, if you stay for long enough, and are heartless enough to dupe the next guy who is just as excited as you were to get lucky enough to get such a great job, then this is your job. You have to sell the job to that guy to make him join your team so you could make a few bucks off each of his sales. Don't get excited, its a pyramid, and by the time it gets down to you, the person who trained and hired the new person, you only get a couple of bucks, with Paula still making the majority of the 65%. Eventually, after doing this countless times (since when most people come to their senses and leave this joke of a job) and get a "team" large enough to convince your boss to let you become assistant manager, it MAY happen (as long as your boss is okay with not making AS much money off of you and your team). Please, if you read this and you see the ad for this job, or schedule an interview-RUN THE OTHER WAY!!!! Also, despite what they tell you, you didn't "land the interview OR the job". They give every applicant a call and interview and hire everyone and anyone, so please save yourself and keep looking for a job. It is not always easy, especially in this economy, but stick with it and you will find something. Don't waste your time on this joke of a company, just to come to your senses later and be back at square one.
