Prospect Promotions, Inc (Houston, TX)

Beware of attractive, but possibly deceptive job ads which offer entry-level training in management, marketing, and sales especially if the ads state "face to face" and "no experience required". If you decide to interview with such a company, ask many questions before accepting employment. Will you be paid minimum wage or commission? Are there company benefits? Beware of invitations for an all-day second "interview".

Before you take the job, are you comfortable with promoting popcorn, cheesecake, heat gel packs, or womens cosmetics inside of Sam's Club or Costco?

  1. Thank you so much for informing people about these scams! I unfortunately fell into this company before you wrote this but soon got out after realizing what I got myself into. Do you know if there is any way to publicize this more?

  2. Also beware of Atlas Events and The Victus Group!

All three of these organizations have basically the same information/text posted on their websites under Careers/About Us. Their emails, from supposedly different companies in different states, were signed off with the same name "Lucy Grant." I don't know what they're trying to pull, but something is definitely not right.

    1. Atlas Events is actually our sister company that we opened up in Connecticut. She was promoted from our office and got the opportunity to manage events in Houston or to expand to a new territory. There is no scamming, otherwise I wouldn't have been working for the company for almost a year, and have seen people within 1 year go from an entry level position to managing their own territory. Nothing crazy, we run promotional events and product promote for over 20 clients all across the USA... IF you're more interested in a dead end job, where you never grow, then stay with that.

The Victus Group will probably go out of business in 1-2 years as most Smart Circle affiliates.

  3. I too almost fell for this before I read this blog! I had a phone interview scheduled but decided not to take it after reading these reviews and comments. I had received emails from Lucy Grant regarding a phone interview and answering questions via email. I then checked their facebook page and viewed the people who had posted on the wall and none of them state that they work for Prospect Promotions under their work tab. There was also a girl who kept asking questions about how they like working for the company and if the pay was salary or hourly based and no one answers her. I also couldn't find any reviews/articles on the company anywhere. BEWARE!!!!! RESEARCH A COMPANY BEFORE APPLYING!!!!

    1. Every company has reviews good or bad, and they all have both. If I always listened to critics reviews on movies I would never see a good movie! I would never shop at Walmart or Best Buy! Have you ever read their reviews? Be open minded and don't always believe what you read on the Internet because it's 99% garbage anyway. When is the last time anything had 100% positive reviews? I'll wait for an answer. We have never done door to door. We shared an office at one point over a year ago and were never affiliated with them.

  5. To be fair to the company and its employees I am going to write a very non-biased response and only give you facts so you can take my response as being a legitimate and respectable response.

I got offered the position at Prospect Promotions and took it because I was making a fast move from El Paso to Houston. I left after 3 months because the position was not a right fit for me. I have a college degree and background in AD/PR so I was looking for a profession in that area.

Their business model is this: they do in-store promotions and build teams to build smaller “companies”. What does that mean? They are a MLM, in short they sell products directly to consumers and recruit other salespeople and create a down line of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple levels of positions and compensations. They sell knives, hair products, cheesecakes, etc. inside of Sam’s and Costco stores and they also repair car windshields outside of convenient stores.

The company, Prospect Promotions, is very young due to their business model. They are actually under an umbrella company called SmartCircle. They form smaller companies by recruiting employees until an individual has 5 people under their management and are able to form a smaller company in another city, in which they branch off and form a company – in this case, Prospect Promotions.

Like I said, the position wasn’t right for me because I come from a much more PROFESSIONAL background – more business, less sales.

Oh! Some logistics: the work hours are not set. You work 6 days (changes each week which days you work). The hours are 6:45 a.m. to anywhere from 6 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. depending on what you are selling that day. The pay is all commission based and 0 benefits.

Your blog has actually kept me from falling into
the trap of three of these companies.

  8. These may not be straight up scams, but they definitely employ false recruiting tactics. If you have recently graduated and you want a "real" job with a salary you should pass. Oh, and by the way, people who are in management for these companies ALWAYS call everyone working for hourly wages "lazy" it's a marketing ploy. Highly unlikely that these people are lazy due to the fact that engineers are paid by the hour as well as EMTs. I thinks it's pretty disrespectful too, some of the hardest working people in the United States work for hourly wages here are a few more examples: lawyers, accountants, RN, IT, etc.

  9. not a scam, its meant to be a stepping stone for those who need a little bit of management/marketing schooling on the job training with pay to be a manager... Long story short, doesn't pay great in the entry level but will pay if you are in a management position. I worked for them for 7 months and my only issue is the miles you place on your car
