Also his trainers who trained my daughter told her she did not need an id number the first few days she worked the floor at Home Depot stores, they in turn, used their own id's and took my daughter's leads. Adam told her no you only got three leads the first week. When my daughter got 4 in a row for three days, she was promoted to manager, which was a sham. The promoted to do redbox on sundays. Then Treated like crap by Adam the day she quit. She was told she had to get ten leads because the next week her leads were low. So BEWARE it's not just Adam.

They fired him a week later for a disorderly conduct ticket he got in 2006- and he only got charged $50! . then they didnt pay him for the 10 days he did work. AND we cant find a number for corporate either! the guy who hired him refuses to answer the phone.

DeleteI had the same experience in Atlanta. I worked there for a week and hated it. I didn't make my numbers so they let me go. That was almost a month ago and I still haven't gotten paid. I've been up there and called several times. I recently heard that there are several things that the manager is doing that are illegal, including not paying me. I recently received a call from someone else who left a couple weeks after I did and she received checks that were significantly lower than what she normally received. Don't fall for it, total SCAM!!

DeleteI have to agree. The manager, Adam Gerald, is a huge scammer. You are not the only one who did not recieve pay checks. I know 3 other people who he would not pay and kept on telling them that he sent out the checks through mail. I did get my checks, but one checked bounced. WTF. You are the business owner and your checks are bouncing. World Wide Concepts is a scam and stay away from them. They take advantage of people like ourselves.

DeleteI went for an interview today. The entire time they would not tell me exactly what I would be doing. I was told it was a non-profit job, but when I got there they said I would be in Home depot. The office is empty, you can tell it is not a legit business. Then a couple hours later I got an email for an interview for this company http://www.actionaid.org at the exact same location. I have worked for well known non-profits before and that is a scam. It's sad because people could actually be giving their money to help others. Sad that scams like this stay alive. DO NOT APPLY FOR THESE JOBS. IT IS A SCAM.

ReplyDeleteIm so glad i decided to do my research. i never heard of this company before! i was busy the day i applied, and didnt check my email, and my phone rings 4 hrs after i send my resume? THAT WAS THE FIRST RED FLAG. i was not told ANY specifics about the job and they offered me an interview. The email they sent me was a pushy email telling me to call them to set up and interveiw - and then they end up calling me ? SECOND RED FLAG- legit business dont sit around all day waiting for you to call them. The third flag was their very tacky very vauge website. THERE IS NOTHING ON THE WBSITE that says anything specific About job titles, what you will be doing, NOTHING. Third flag ! and this blog puts the icing on the cake. thanks for giving me a heads up ! im definitely NOT going to the interview.

DeleteYes I just got off of my phone interview and started my research. Thank you for this and they sent me the same email and called me when I didn't respond. They advertised as a marketing company and I asked was this sells and got a very vauge answer. Smh. I have been unemployed too long and would like something in my field of study but that's not fair to decive those that are looking for legit employment.
DeleteI have a supposed second interview with Titan. Titan is in the same office as World Wide Concepts. I'm not going to bother with it though. At the first interview, the interwiewer gave me vague answers to my questions. I was told employment would start after 3 (three) interviews. After reading this blog, why take the chance!!!!

Delete@Taxme I got the same e-mail and thought it was a scam so I sent the e-mail to my husband for him to look over it. They called me this morning to schedule an interview and then I received the second e-mail that you received as well from the girl on the phone and now I'm really not sure that I should even go to this "interview".
ReplyDeleteI cancelled an interview today that met all this criteria. I cancelled before I found this. Another red flag is when a company just gives you an address to go to for an "interview" but they don't give you a name of the company and don't share any details about it. McDonald's,Walmart,Dish Network,Allstate Insurance,etc will make sure you know who they are when calling you for an interview. I mean,come on. I had a bad feeling about this company before I got there and it just intensified when I got there,but I wanted to check it out. They wanted an all day interview (who does that?), not even a training but I called this morning to cancel. I only got led to this article because I got an email from another suspect company.

ReplyDeleteSmart Circle affiliates are independently owned and thus their "employees" are not under the jurisdiction of Smart Circle International, US Remodelers or The Home Depot. Smart Circle affiliate employees (early minimum wage or higher of commissions earned) sell DirecTV subscriptions or they sign up leads for kitchen remodeling. Smart Circle is paid on completed DirecTV installations not signups. A Home Depot remodeling consultation lead signup does not always become a remodeling job. The client (DirecTV or US Remodelers) pays Smart Circle, the Smart Circle affiliate then pays the sales rep or lead generator. Unfortanately, the people trying to selling DirecTV subscriptions and trying to sign up kitchen remodeling appointents are not employees of DirecTV, US Remodelers or The Home Depot. Many Smart Circle affiliates go out of business in 1-2 years or they change company names due to built up bad reputations.

As having been unfortunately involved in a similar situation with another company that was indeed scamming customers & the employees I am grateful that this was available. It is doubtful that independent licensees of Smart Circle or Cydcor would give you a copy of their employee contracts regarding compensation, employment policy, and benefits (health insurance and paid time off) if provided.
The "scam" is one or more of the following: deceptive recruiting job ads, rosy picture of opportunity for advancement to management, non-disclosure of minimum wage pay or difficulty earning commissions selling DirecTV subscriptions or signing up leads for kitchen remodeling work for US Remodelers (subsidiary of The Home Depot).
You have to do your own research about new unknown companies. Many Smart Circle and Cydcor affiliates have or will change their company names in 1-2 years because of negative built-up reputations. The affiliates do not procure the contracts with DirecTV, US Remodelers (The Home Depot), Quill, AT&T or Verizon. The contracts are procured by Smart Circle International and Cydcor for nationwide distribution. The big companies have never heard of these independent affiliates.
If you read this blog, Ripoffreport and other testimonials about various Smart Circle or Cydcor affiliates, you will find defenders and detractors. Smart Circle affiliate employees work retail and wear casual clothing while Cydcor affiliate employees have to wear business formal (business suits with ties). Cydcor affiliate employees have to attend "mandatory" team building events, meetings before and after outside door-to-door sales. There are many reports of Cydcor affiliates going door-to-door from office building to office building trying to sell Quill office supplies.
There are people who love to do door-to-door sales (B-2-B or residential) and they do not mind using their own car and working for 100% commission or $300 per week ($7.50 hour) plus commission over five sales.
There is nothing wrong with starting and running your own small business, but their is something wrong with deceptive job advertising, deceptive training and other reported deceptive employment practices.

If you really want to do "retail events", there are Smart Circle affiliates in Virginia. Search Craigslist for "entry level marketing" jobs and look for "retail events".
