Brilliant Advertising, Inc, a new company in San Jose, California, states they have expanded out to the San Francisco Bay Area yet it was just founded on July 12, 2011. Brilliant Advertising has the same address and telephone number as Exodus Group. Inc, exodusgroupinc.com. If this new company was really an expansion of Propel Management Inc (Kansas City, KS), http://www.propelmgmtinc.com/, would not the new office in San Jose be called Propel Management, Inc as with any expansion branch office?

so is this a scam
ReplyDeleteNo, I went and interviewed with them. If you don't want to make money then your a scam. Yes the work is difficult, but with any startup grassroot company it will be that way till they are fully established and people understand that if the product doesn't work for them; fine it's not an issue. I'm sure with what I've seen that other individuals here in the Bay Area would want the treasure some consider trash and that dirty word we call, "solicitations."
ReplyDeleteThink of it this way, would you rather spend full price to indoor skydive, or get 90% off ?
If you answered yes to paying full price, you must be on a closed network inside an insane asylum....
Recently interviewed with Brilliant Advertising and its basically a company that buys promo coupons to Oakland A's, Skydive etc etc...sell them at the discounted price and by sell I mean old school cold calling door to door selling. Walk into a business park only to get thrown out by security OR walk up to people at grocery store parking lots seeing if they want to buy these promo coupons/tickets to whatever that sales person has at that time. You get paid commission and I think lowest hourly rate. No insurance, bonus etc etc. Must meet daily or weekly quota.
ReplyDeleteCompanies like this are trying to compete with Groupon, LivingSocial, DailyDeals etc but IMO the sales people hired for companies like this are just like telemarketers only in front of your face and not on the phone. Not sure how long or well executed this "concept" (if you will) will last.
I guess good for a kid who has never had a job before and wants to start learning people skills, communication skills but definitely NOT for someone with experience, talent, education and established skill-sets.
Brilliant Advertising's "HR" Dept. really should read through the resumes that come across their desk before making a call to a candidate otherwise they will end up wasting eachother's time.
Brilliant is not trying to compete with Groupon or the like, it is an alternative to the social media model that allows for a more targeted approach based on clients' needs/wants. The Groupon model is actually being questioned by many in the industry. Here's a recent article.
ReplyDeletehttp://mashable.com/2011/06/02/groupon-number/
Brilliant does not buy inventory from any client at a discount. The clients enter into an agreement to redeem an approved and negotiated incentive package that Brilliant makes available to the public.
Some may not agree with each of the sales approaches, but that does not make it a scam or a waste of time. There are 3 ways these promotions reach the market, community outreach campaigns (b2b), through retail outlets (partnerships), and through a corporate event model. If anyone would like to learn more don't hesitate to call the office. Hopefully that clears some things up.
Right... You expect me to believe that a BRAND NEW FIRM with no proven track record as of yet that's barely been around is "so trusted" by major firms that they're willing to "give them a bunch of coupons and deal partnerships"??
DeleteWhat kind of idiot do u take me for? Lol
It seems like EVERY FREAKING FIRM of this type ("direct marketing" or "outsourced sales") is NEW. I swear to god! The oldest ones you can find are like only 2-3 years old! That should tell you something about how 'effective' or "real" this business model is.
I'm sorry, but I don't wanna go door-to-door selling sh*t in hot or cold weather just to get refused by businessmen who DON'T WANT SOLICITATIONS.
ReplyDeleteAnyone whose "business" model relies solely on door-to-door nonsense or random telemarketing (or "cold calling" as they now like to call it) DESERVES to fail. That sh*t is SOOO several decades ago. GET WITH THE TIMES!
Midwestern,
ReplyDeleteIt seems you have very strong opinions, which you are welcome to. I'm not familiar with who you are but I'd venture to guess that you're in the Midwest as opposed to Northern California. I doubt that you've had much contact with Brilliant and I'm sure that if you were to meet with us you would see that we have more sales opportunities than what you describe as "solicitations." Unfortunately, you feel it necessary to lump us in with telemarketers and solely "door-to-door" businesses, but this is not the case as stated in my original post.
To anyone else reading this, we would love to discuss our opportunities with you directly. Any questions will gladly be fielded and potentially a meeting could be set where you could meet the team face to face and hear things directly from the source. Unfortunately some feel it's best to tear others down, but that's where we are today. Good luck to everyone in their endeavors!
"I can't answer your question on the phone, but if you come in for an interview, then we can talk more," is not a good sign that you're an honest company.
DeleteGood thing I found this now. I just got 2 calls from them and another company linked to them (the girl slipped up and said Brilliant inc before she corrected herself. I've already been through this with both BAY Marketing Inc and Exodus last year. I don't feel like going through this AGAIN.
ReplyDeleteAny time a company won't answer your direct questions, it's a big red flag. "Is this a full-time, salaried, benefited position?" I asked.
ReplyDelete"I'm not allowed to discuss compensation," was the answer.
Come on. Brilliant -- don't you think you could save yourselves some time, too, by being a little more honest about what you're looking for? I've been burned by a scam like this before, driving a long way for an interview that turned out to be a for a job that was totally misrepresented online and on the phone.
Any time a company is secretive and cagey about answering questions about a position, it's a bad, bad sign!
Really ?! For those of you who feel that the comany is a scam, your are an ignorant person. Yes it is a commission based job, and yes the weather isn't perfect everyday, when is it ? Guess what though? It's still in operation and still growing. They attract new clientel and customers on a continual basis. Hello did you happen to notice a major league baseball team uses them ?!?!
ReplyDeleteSo If those aren't the signs for a growing company, I guess I was born in a barn.
Also, It's difficult to explain somthing that you can't see, feel, or experience on the phone. So yea why not go for the interview to check it out, or did you forget you're not obligated to take a job you interview for ?
So come at me when you want to talk about honest companies like Enron or w.e; because Brilliant is an opportunity for anyone who wants to improve their people skills and an opportunity to own your own buisness....
To me it jus sounds like you don't know the meaning of hard work an goin through what everyone else does to eventually own their own buisness while helping people save money.
so·lic·it /səˈlɪsɪt/ Show Spelled[suh-lis-it] Show IPA
verb (used with object)
1. to seek for (something) by entreaty, earnest or respectful request, formal application, etc.: He solicited aid from the minister.
( My take on the definition: Give me 40 $ and you get somthing that actually costs minimally 200$ so my math isn't great, but i think you save money... )
I forgot to mention, If you're not conducting yourself professionaly then you should be kicked out of the buisness. It's all about how you conduct yourself in a buisness environment, but rather the relationship.
ReplyDeleteI'd sure as heck kick you out if you didn't try an "Wine and Dine," me first before you ask for my participation.
It's about a relationship rather than a person on the phone 3,000 miles away or submitting email after email to some tech support to get some pre-desigated response rather than face to face interacion in hand with customer satisfaction.
