The Vantage Corporation (Los Angeles, CA)

Beware of attractive, but possibly deceptive job ads which offer entry-level training in management, marketing, and sales especially if the ads state no experience required. If you decide to interview with such a company, ask many questions before accepting employment. Will you be paid minimum wage or commission? Are there company benefits such as health insurance? Will you be required to use your car with no expense reimbursement on a daily basis to do your job?

Before you waste your college education, time, and money (transportation expense) on interviews and jobs you may regret, do your research. Beware of poorly designed company websites with pictures of satellite dishes and home improvement. You would be selling DirecTV subscriptions inside of warehouse or retail electronic stores, or trying to sign up leads for kitchen cabinet refacing inside of Home Depot stores.

Job seekers must do their research. Unfortunately "independently owned and operated sales and marketing outsourced marketing firms" can make their own rules because they are independently owned.

  1. I disagree Miss Nikou (肉) seems very professional. Thier business plan seems plausable and The job offer of working your way to the top is a time honored tradition in America and Japan. Her side of the story is that this was posted by a former employee with malicious intent to smear her reputation. I am uncertian if its a legitamate company as I did not view financials. But she comes across in person as a very intelligent and classy lady. If you are the smuck that posted this then please respond why paying someone money is a "scam" for my ten mins she clearly explained a compensation plan that does seem acurate and possible.

  8. People, I would recommend that you really give the above post thought before taking a job described above as:
"...or trying to sign up leads for kitchen cabinet refacing inside of Home Depot stores."
These matters that have been posted are very correct regarding these ideas. You might find yourself trapped in a system where the check you are being paid for is work from 2 weeks ago.
    Be very careful!

  11. Overall for this job I liked the Asst. Manager and my Trainer and learned from them.

The type of pay of these companies is "Draw Against Commission."
That means that you are paid minimum wage, but if you don't make enough in commission they loan it to you from futures to make the minimum wage amount. I am saying that could work out essentially where an employee is making less than minimum wage. Car Dealerships do this also.
The remedy is for some people adjust their time sheets...which...well .
Another thing is that you are not paid on all your leads, only the leads where the Salesperson comes to the home and does the pitch at, called "converted leads," and only the Owner gets the information for converted leads..
Some of these guys are really good at getting a whole bunch of leads, but have a very low conversion rate.
I don't understand why. Do people like their looks better, are they prettier?
    For example:
One person might get 18 leads for the week gets paid on 5 converted leads.
Another person might get 11 leads for the week gets paid on 8 converted leads. 30% vs. 72%
I found that on a "Quality Store," (a store that has fewer people, though more owners coming into the store), I learned to slow my pace, the same amount of leads at half the statistical average presented. The reason being is that people were upset seeing me running around the store, and with the slower pace they didn't see me running around like a chicken with my head cut off, at a store with less clients and especially less contractors coming in.
